For England last night from the Chelsea youth teams. RCL, Tammy, and Cork.

I honestly feel the academy should be praised and not continually slated. The core reason England are doing so well at young levels is due to the work Chelsea and City have done...mainly Chelsea.

I don’t believe it’s the academy that’s get slated. It’s the processes around pathway and transition to first team football that gets slated.

Winning at youth levels means nothing if it doesn’t transition into success at the senior levels.

Fair comment mate.

I do believe that we're now seeing it in full bloom though. We've had young talent previously but I think we're seeing many more that have been with us since the age of 8/9 coming through. We're also seeing the like of Christensen knock loudly on the door for a regular 1st 11 spot, RLC and Tammy playing for England and also Ampadu turning out at full int level. Just a few of the highlights, there are many more to be had. The Academy is really thriving imo.

I think the leap from academy football to Chelsea first team flies against club policy. Its virtually impossible to do without an examination elsewhere. CFC do everything possible to eliminate untried players playing for the 1st 11. I personally want the best at Chelsea...if we can buy better than an academy lad then buy better. Dreams of us having the lads play for us is a nice dream but ultimately its sentimental nonsense. Imo.

[^] Better to have one truly great youth team product once every 20 years than 20 good to mediocre ones every year or two.

I think people lose sight of the fact that senior football isn't about making the most out of the youth players on the books. I don't get why there's such a hang-up about academies not being successful if teams don't have loads of youth team products promoted into the first team, as though that's what a football club's success should be measured against!

If you asked fans in June...Moratta or Tammy - most would say Moratta. It's 100% down to Tammy if he challenges the managers thinking. The chance and stage is set at Swansea...also see RLC at Palace. The signs are good so lets hope for continued improvement. The academy is relatively young and only just starting to flower.

[^] Plus I think if you asked Tammy, he'd rather be first choice for Swansea every week then picking up scraps here every now and then like Batshuayi is

I don’t disagree. I want success at chelsea.

But that doesn’t help the national team!

But loaning them out, which is what we do with our young players, does help the national team.
It's easier to play for England nowadays than it is for Chelsea.

Correct.

Which follows my point. if we dominate world football at youth level, then that doesn’t transition to the senior international team, then it’s nothing to celebrate! That’s not a gripe with academies which are clearing producing talent, hence my original point.

I’m done on this one [:1]

I get what you're saying, what I'm saying is that people will slate Chelsea because our academy products won't usually ever make it here and then blame us for those young players not fulfilling their potentials, when in fact having these young players out on loan elsewhere is actually helping the kids more than if they were sitting on our bench and/or inevitably failing to live up to the high expectations they'll face at a club like ours.
So we agree, I think :-D

No, and that's my point! You said winning at youth level means nothing if success doesn't come at senior level; we get success at every level, so why is it deemed a problem that we don't get more players into the first team squad from the academy? I just struggle to understand what fans actually want to be honest

Even more so a reason to surely praise the Chelsea academy and loan system then? Which is what UTC was alluding to re: RLC, Abraham and Cork. The former two wouldn't have got their chance last night had they not been at Palace and Swansea and stayed with us instead.
