It’s not great is it? Having said that, I can just about understand the ref getting that penalty wrong in real time, but what is the point of that VAR nonsense if they are just going to cover for each other?

VAR stinks mate.

Embarrassed by both Morata and Pedro. Sitting in the same room as my Norwich mad missus isnt nice at all.

Wasn’t clear and obvious. Whether they were pens are opinions, not facts.

The point of VAR is to help reduce clear and obvious refereeing errors, and it has done that in all the games it’s been used in England so far.

As Shearer says...should be for a matter of fact.

Felt the Willian pen was clear and obvious, otherwise how will a pen ever be given? Pedro got what he deserved tonight. Morata needs to stay on his feet, starting to irritate me with his antics. Anyway it's never dull being a Chelsea fan.

You felt, so that’s your opinion [wink]
Plenty feel otherwise. It was made clear VAR would not mean refs spending minutes analysing decisions that could go either way, so can’t really argue that the fed made the decision he was going to make anyway had there been no VAR available.

Agree re: Pedro and Morata [^] DFS

Wonder if the whole thing will cause more problems than it solves. If we go back to the League Cup at the Goons the obvious penalty was Chambers pushing Dave over yet nothing was mentioned. Do we go down the cricket route of giving each team 2 reviews? Concerned we will lose the immediacy of football.

I don’t think having the set no. of reviews would be a good way to go. I think it works better now where it’s used only when required.

Those penalty decisions would have been made without VAR, so the only way VAR would create problems is if a correct decision is made and then overturned in error due to VAR.
It seems people want it both ways, the ref could have spent five or ten minutes reviewing the William pen earlier and not knowing which way to call it but because VAR couldn’t prove it was a definite pen pretty much instantly, the game carried on.

There’s already enough breaks in the game as it is so we won’t end up spending hours on the pitch cos of VAR, especially after a big decision with players protesting etc., and waiting around for decisions to be made certainly hasn’t happened in the Leagues they use it abroad.

Looked clear and obvious to me. Pedro and Morata were stupid though, no one to blame but themselves. Morata’s confidence is shot to pieces at the moment and this won’t have helped.
