The mighty Chelsea FC scrounging around to find a 31 yr old loanee.

When you actually think about it...it's an absolute shambles and a million miles away from the bigger thinking clubs in Europe. We're 2 bob these days.

That’s one way of looking at it :-D

Another is, we’re replacing a huge flop with one of the best, most consistent goalscorers in Europe in recent years.
My biggest gripe is we didn’t get the deal done in the summer but at least this new deal gives us the option not to take him full time, if it doesn’t work out for him in this League.

I actually love the fact it’s something different to what we’ve been doing of late, too often in recent seasons we’ve not bought finished products. Sometimes, it’s needed. This could be as important as Anelka joining in Jan all those years ago or Fergie essentially signing van Persie just for one season.

It's an acceptable deal given the circumstances, K. I'm not saying he's not good, that would be nonsense. He's 31 and has never played in England so my expectation level is medium to low. Glad to be wrong - VERY glad.

My issue is probably the same as yours...Higuain yes but at the other end of his career like bigger thinking clubs did/do. Also, see Giroud. We should never be here in this state...scramble for covering a 3rd striker by all means but NEVER looking to add a first choice hitman in January.

I guess the hope was that with a decent pre-season behind him, Morata might come good and after the money invested in him, the club probably felt they needed to give him a second chance after a patchy first season. I think he’s been even worse than anyone other than his harshest critics would have imagined. I suppose at least the club aren’t letting it drag out for another six months and have basically admitted it’s not going to work with him, so are doing what both the manager and the player wants here.

I actually feel for Morata. Our keep ball does his goal getting no favours (nor does his constant 'touch me I fall') but that's getting away from the subject on my part.

The club never covered this situation, they rode their luck and have lost the title on the back of that before the seasons halfway point. We went with an unsettled striker in low confidence and another who at 32 is struggling for 90 minutes let alone 2 games in a week. Giroud is an impact 3rd striker at very best and NEVER an alternative (fitness/age considered) first choice. This is why I feel we've gone from a big club mentality to 2 bob. Sarri is being cut very little slack on this front - we can see how he's trying to manage a bad situation by playing Hazard in the 9...it's not a desired strategy but one borne out of desperation. We have managers trying to reach very high expectation with duds.

I wasn’t anti-Morata at the start of this season and I agree his troubles aren’t all his own making, but I see too much from him that annoys me to defend him. The main thing is, it’s him and his people who have been pushing for the move, so that’s swung it.

Can’t argue too much with that analysis, I suppose the positive here is at least they’re not compounding the situation by refusing to acknowledge and resolve it in this transfer window, so that’s something. But you’re right, it shouldn’t have got to this stage in the first place really.

It’s very unusual in that the club has signed a striker, the manager wanted.
Only Sarri can be blamed when Higuain doesn’t deliver.
