From very good writer, Jonathan Wilson:

“Chelsea is what happens when a club is not holistic, when players are bought and sold and managers are appointed and dismissed without anybody ever seeming to link the two together.”

There’s plenty of good articles out there, so it’s only natural for you to pick one that has your opinion.
All about opinions.

Have you read it? I wouldn’t say it necessarily reflects my opinion but he makes some good points and he is someone worth reading, which isn’t necessarily the case with others.

Martin Samuel is another who I think is better than most of his peers, I note he also later said that “if Harry Kane was Chelsea striker, Chelsea would not have a problem this season. We wouldn’t be analysing Sarriball and asking ‘why doesn’t this work?’” yesterday.

Read it yesterday.
It’s all opinions.
Time will tell whose opinion is correct.

Not if what Wilson refers to keeps happening.
Hopefully the club getting Higuain is a step in the right direction.

That was my point when suggesting Spurs were struggling without a decent striker yesterday. In fairness to CFC, we spent a lot of money on a striker and it hasn't worked for us too well. That happens but what is poor form is to have a manager enter into a season with just 2 strikers when one of which ( both really) is clearly not capable of 2 games a week. That restricts a manager massively.

What do you think Sarri wants from Kante, Jorginho and Kovacic, because 4 goals and 4 assists between them all season in the league is terrible and put Harry Kane up front and we may well have more goals but Spurs actually get midfielders and forwards into the box, just look at both their goals yesterday. That’s not luck.

I think that third midfielder spot (Kovacic) is the problem there, hopefully Pulisic will come in and do more in that role because whilst Kovacic is a good player, he doesn’t really contribute anything.
Barkley/RLC don’t seem to be the answer either, sadly.

Good read, lots of bits i agree with but can you not argue Arsenal, Spurs and Liverpool have probably had the most stable philosophy for the last decade and have won the least......

Starts at the top for sure but having inflexibility below that isn’t good enough

I think Sarri has much to learn re his in-play tactics. His lack of a goalscoring striker constantly puts him into positions where he has to play too much of a part and often does like for like changes that just belly flop. Sarri is not faultless by any stretch. He is found wanting with this squad and this strike force. If a manager has a striker that scores goals his job is made hugely easier. I doubt very much Higuain is his ideal striker for the long term but at least he will have faith in one striker at the club and that will allow him to play Hazard correctly and also drop Willian or Pedro to the bench...just how he preferred early season when setting off on a decent run.

Sarri has a rigid ideal and this will cost money and trust to see it through. If we forget Sarri for a minute...is this squad where it deserves to be or should it be higher? I see City Liverpool and Spurs above us and deservedly so...not least because they have goalscorers. I don't think this squad is actually underperforming - I'd even say it's going along quite nicely all things considered.

I think there’s a balance to be had, Arsenal under Wenger certainly didn’t have that balance. I think Liverpool have been building something with Klopp there and are getting the benefit, and for all Spurs’ lack of trophies, I don’t think any of their fans would have changed these Poch years in exchange for an FA Cup or League Cup. They’ve arguably been over-achieving in terms of their League finishes under him, albeit I do think opportunities have been there for them to win things which they haven’t taken (maybe that’s because he’s not quite the elite manager the media say he is?)

"When Chelsea appointed Sarri, they knew what they were getting. He has a plan and a style and he uses it. It is what has elevated him, without any professional playing background, from being a banker to managing a thrilling Napoli team that pushed Juventus as close as anybody has in Serie A in recent memory. He did at one time play with two holding midfielders but that was at Sorrento seven years ago."

Well do what you did at Sorrento now and again, you bloody LEMON.

I’m not sure two holding midfielders would help us at the moment

Good article
by Walter @, 21/01, 13:09 @ Famous

It was a play on words as in SORRENTO LEMONS* but never mind :-D

However, playing teams like Sp*rs away when we were annihilated, I would be flexible with my tactics

You know what you can do with your highbrow fancy foreign jokes :-D

(I’d have had two holding midfielders in that game too to be fair, but his philosophy is what got him this job so he’s bound to stick to it)

Don't worry I'm back to work tomorrow so that's all from me.

Re: his philosophy, I think that's the stickler for me. You ain't got a striker so don't go to Sp*rs or Arsenal without changing it. Beating City 2-0 was, it seems, more luck than judgement.

Shame Higuain couldn’t have come in last week as I think he could have changed things.
I’ve said over the years that I think Hazard could become a striker as he grows, a la Ronaldo (or Mertens under Sarri) but he’s proved that wrong!
I think the feeling on Saturday was that at least we’d be solid with him up there, as we’ve generally been better defensively of late, and that got proved wrong as well.
Giroud was ineffective when he came on so not sure him starting would have made a difference. He’s not really a good starter.

I think Higuain arriving is a good thing and how successful we are with him (or otherwise) may define Sarri’s stint here.

Good article

What got him this job will lose him this job.

Which would reflect extremely badly on the club. Employing someone for doing something, then sacking him when he does what’s he’s been employed for...

I’m sure he’d much rather fail on his own terms than compromise to try and please others and fail that way instead
