Why does Hazard have to come on when leading 2-0?
Why does Kante need to come on when leading 2-0?
Knowing the games we have coming up, why did Sarri risk them?
What is this manager’s way of thinking, because I sure as hell don’t know?

Who knows, perhaps it’s written into their contracts that they need to make a certain amount of appearances for bonuses or sponsorship reasons, or something along those lines? According to this book, written by a Premier League lawyer, that kind of thing is commonplace :

It’s pretty common, in American football because the contracts are disclosed you can see clubs at the end of the season deliberately not playing players in certain situations so they don’t get their bonuses. If Chelsea do it to make sure players do get their bonuses then that would be even worse!!

:-D but would you be surprised?

I’m thinking more that perhaps Hazard’s agent/representative put a clause in saying he must appear in a certain amount of games, and because he didn’t really play much in the opening six games and some of the domestic Cup games, then percentage-wise he’d be below the agreed amount of games, so that needs to be bumped up? Ditto Kante who I think missed some of those earlier matches

Surely, knockout stages of the European Cups are not a guarantee, so wouldn’t be included in any player contract?

This manager worries me more than anyone we have had since 2004.
Hudson-Odoi gets 8 mins, why? So the manager can say he is getting some minutes?

I’m sure a club like Chelsea and lawyers/agents working with Chelsea would work on the presumption that we’d be in the knockout stages of European competitions.

From what I can remember, you’ve worried about every manager, even when they were doing well and winning things...
Hudson Odoi was ill at the weekend wasn’t he?

He has no concept at all of game management. At 2-0 up you see it out.

You would think so, seeing as we were in total control.
Then Luiz wanders upfield, from his defensive position, with the ball, then tries a 25yd forward pass, which goes straight to their midfielder, two passes later, their striker is through, one-on-one.
Whilst I am not directly blaming Sarri for the goal, as the blame lays with Luiz, imo, he didn’t need to make any subs to disrupt the team, imo.

One thing that is clear is that he is not Mourinho and would rather try and go and score a third then sit back and defend the advantage. Fans and pundits have criticised our previous managers for not having that mindset, rightly or wrongly.

To make sure we don’t give away a silly goal and hopefully score a third....oh wait

In fairness, every manager can make a decision which makes sense on paper, only for it to backfire in practice

Surprised to see CHO only given 6 minutes last night, with all the games we have coming up.
