Where does this kind of shit come from? When have teams that were all style and no substance ever been successful?
Pochettino: "Modern football does not pay you what you deserve."
Anti football.
Show us yer medals, Poch.
You earn the right to deserve.
We deserved victory because we defended very well and limited the opposition to feed on scraps...they were poor in defence.
We deserved victory because the manager used 3 of his best players as a game changer...Ponch set out to win the game inside 45 minutes.
We deserved victory because we smashed in 4 goals against the best defence in the country...I'll give them the 2 goals as good work.
We deserved victory because our gaffer had a 90 minute gameplan...see 45 minutes comment
Part of the gameplan was to let Spurs have the ball, we wasn't being dominated, it was a plan. Get them out of position and damage them when chance arrives...we did that perfectly. We never rode luck out there, we professionally dismantled a side on excellent form and left them in tears with cries of 'Chelsea have done us yet again'.
In short, our manager respected the opposition, he did homework on the opposition, he selected a starting team very much with the opposition in mind...he respected Spurs. Now we look at Ponch...no respect at all...rolls up with the same plan, same players etc and expects teams to lie down for his young superstars...NOT CHELSEA AMIGO. Come back when you can win a game from the bench by using your nut.
Conte wins Ponch loses.
It's all nonsense, I am not against stylish football, I'm not against any style, you gotta use your resources in the best way you feel able, if you have Messi, Xavi, Iniesta etc you play tippy tappy, if you have Drogba you play more direct, and also, as mentioned, you take into account the opposition, if they have Drogba you surely send the defence out differently than if they have Messi.
Football isn't judged on artistic merit, you score more goals than they do, you win, it's fairly simple.
B on a roll
Spot on
Lovely!
I don't care, I'm in London and at the Bridge tomorrow. 5th night on the piss. Meeting mates at the Blackbird pre drinks tomorrow from 4pm.. Come on the chelsea.
History's littered with teams who played what is generally considered to be eye-pleasing football but didn't get the silverware they wanted ; 70's Netherlands, 90's Newcastle etc.
I think the problem nowadays is the social media generation have grown up with a team like Barca who for years not just played a certain way, but consistently won the trophies to go along with it as well, so I think more than ever there's this disgust at teams who don't try and sacrifice winning in the name of being 'entertaining'. Surely the beauty of the game is being able to appreciate different teams, styles, tactics etc. Brazil and Italy have both won a lot of World Cups and yet the stereotypical philosophies of both countries' football could barely be more polarised. It just shows that there's no right or wrong way to win.
The brilliant Liverpool teams of late 70s early 80s weren't always pleasing to the eye.
They're morphing into their hated rivals a couple of stops down the Victoria Line.
The thing about Arsenal fans who are at least as old as me, and even a bit younger, is that I remember very clearly how happy (and rightly so) they were when they won a few trophies with what was arguably one of the most boring sides ever seen, "1-0 to the Arsenal" was a source of inmense pride to them, if you're a 25 year old goon, whilst you're still in the wrong about taking the moral high ground, you can at least be forgiven as Wenger is all you have ever really known, but anyone who remembers Graham can't be giving me any spiel about style and pretty football.
