Conte Officially off
by upthechels @, 13/07, 12:00 @ Famous

Some rumours (mere rumours) suggest Conte has been acting like a cnut. Going missing on holiday for a while and the club couldn't contact him leaving the club feeling untrusting of him and his plans.

From what I've seen from the outside...I'm glad he's gone . Not all that imo.

I’ve heard so many stories that don’t paint the club or Conte in a good light but we don’t know the truth of what’s happened. Either way, whatever’s gone on (and this isn’t the first time a successful manager’s left under a cloud with the board and players bad-mouthing them, which makes me see them as the common denominator rather than it always being the managers’ fault) it’s a sad day and I think rather pathetic when the club can’t even thank a manager who took our team from 10th to a record breaking League title and then added an FA Cup, two trophies in two seasons.
It’s part of the reason why so many people don’t like Chelsea and whilst I don’t really care about other people’s opinions, it annoys me when I have to agree with them. Lack of respect from the club/fans for people who’ve done great things for us is not on in my book.

Whether you like or dislike him; whether you think he should have stayed or gone; whether you think he’s a cnut or not, the reality is that the hierarchy at the football club shows a massive lack of knowhow and respect for anyone or anything. Including fans.

Let’s not forget the way they also dispatched of Ancelotti to name one other.

‘It’s fine, we’ll just pay him off’ seems to be the philosophy. In any other business you’d be facing employment tribunals left right and centre.

Just all very very low quality for a company supposedly running a global brand.

Hard to argue with that

When I try and remove the noise that surrounds the issue. I am left with a manager who took every opportunity to bad mouth his employer and demotivate his team. Regardless of trophies or records, I can’t see how any business in the world can support that.

A sad state of affairs and imho Chelsea should have pulled the trigger a while ago. Cutting nose off yes, but all that behaviour can’t be tollerated surely.

Not defending him in any way. Just saying the way they handle these things is shocking.

Does one or two days pre season training when both parties know he’s off.

Shyte all round.

Yep. Should never have come to this. I am sure Conte had a grievance and can’t believe his first airing of it was a post match interview.

I can’t think of a business with a higher turnover that is run with less professionalism.

I can’t remember a time when it has been any different though.

Agreed.

I don’t think Conte has come out of this season well at all, but I guess the key point is that the club keeps putting manager after manager in this position. It’s the club’s fault it got to the point where he felt he had to be brutally honest about the transfer plan (or lack of) and clear lack of support for a manager who at pretty much every other club in the world would have been backed. And they surely knew what he was like when they hired him, even a quick Google search would have told them he’s got form.

It’s impossible to separate the two things IMHO. He’s not the first and won’t be the last.

by OSGOODWASGOOD, 13/07, 20:12 @ upthechels

He cut his own throat by texting Costa he was no longer wanted. I suspect that was when he lost the support of the players.
The change in his touchline behaviour, when celebrating or lack off, goals was also a giveaway all was not well.
As already mentioned, he kept moaning about the club’s transfer policy, but also refused to change the way he set the team up, constantly playing out of form players, in the same system. Heavy defeats against bottom half of the table teams, ultimately missing out on the CL, gave the club no option but to get rid of.
I shed no tears for him. To me he appears to have brought this upon himself.
So we move on to the next chapter.

That doesn’t make sense. He found himself in a situation not of his own making, that’s the whole point; ok, you can criticise how he reacted to that and I think we all have/would, but the whole reason we saw all of this unfold as it did is purely because it wasn’t his own making, it was the club who decided they were going to do what they did (or not do).
It’s not rocket science really, a club and manager working in harmony has to be better than this constant shitshow we endure every year or two where accomplished managers are undermined and come out of it getting criticised and looking like the bad guys. I really cannot get my head around the lack of respect for managers who have achieved success for this club, as I said elsewhere it’s no wonder people say the things they do.

CFC usually just pay someone off so the reluctance to do so this time has me interested. I look forward to learning more.

On another note...the only sacking I think Chelsea have got wrong under the Roman era is Carlo. The employing of most has been the mistake!

Conte Officially off
by Famous, 13/07, 22:25 @ upthechels

I’m not the biggest Carlo fan but again, the disrespect they showed to a man who did great things was embarrassing.

The question has to be asked, why do so many good and top managers end up being sacked and us sitting here and agreeing it needs to be done? It’s all down to the conditions they’re working in. I will always maintain that we’ve won things in spite of the board, not because of them.

Conte Officially off
by upthechels @, 13/07, 23:00 @ Famous

Simply because I think they pull in the wrong managers most of the time. Good managers like Jose (great 1st spell) and Conte aren't yes men so the boat rocks pretty soon. Pep wouldn't last 2 minutes! Need that great manager that can play Roman and get the lads ticking....don't ask me where from though!

Conte Officially off
by Famous, 14/07, 13:44 @ upthechels

I don’t think one exists. Any manager good enough will always end up in the same position

Conte Officially off
by OSGOODWASGOOD, 13/07, 23:26 @ Famous

The question that should be asked, to each manager, is why do you want to be Chelsea manager?
I have no sympathy for any Chelsea manager, because they know when they take it on, that at some stage, within three years, they are on their way, with a nice big payoff.
The manager has an international squad of 25 to work with, win a trophy or two, piss the club off, get sacked, move on to next job, with a skip full of reddies. A simple process, that works for all concerned. Afterall, which English club has won the most major trophies, since Abramovich took over...

Conte Officially off
by Famous, 14/07, 13:58 @ OSGOODWASGOOD

It’s not necessarily about sympathy for managers, it’s about being annoyed that the people who run our club consistently allow these situations to occur in the first place.
As I’ve said before, I believe we’ve won things in spite of how the club’s run, not because of it. The cracks have appeared in recent years as we’ve gone from being the best team in the country and one of the best in Europe to getting overtaken by clubs who’ve got good managers and let them build something (in City’s case, with the added bonus of unlimited financial backing), whereas the good managers we’ve had are always having to achieve things with at least one arm tied behind their backs. So to celebrate that success we’ve had on one hand but not give credit and respect to the managers who’ve achieved it on the other, makes no sense to me.

Diego Costa did not want to play for CFC. The text message, in my opinion, is irrelevant

[^] I think Costa had to go after the China stunt, not sure Conte or the club had much choice on that. I loved Costa but lets not forget we never got a full good season out of him and was prone to big dips in form for the second half of the season (not unlike Morata).

I do have a fair amount of sympathy with Conte regarding how long the club took to get players in last summer and in Jan, there is no doubt that hindered pre-season and cost us points(having no striker for games in Jan). But from the outside it looked like the club chased some of Contes first choice targets all summer (Koulibaly, Sandro) but couldn't get people to sell.

Some of the other players he was rumoured to want(Lukaku, Sanchez, Van Dik) I think, with regards to the sums of money involved, the club were right to not sign.

The reality is with FFP we can't just go out and sign anyone we want for any amount. Even City can't do that anymore.

As to an earlier point, yes the club should have been aware of what Conte was like but he also must have known we were no longer a club that would go out and spend crazy amounts so for me clear fault on both sides.

At the end of the day he under achieved with what he had last year and if he had spent less time complaining I'm sure we would have finished top 4 again and I think most people would have accepted that given how good City were.

Any person, no matter what job they do, if they are offered double/treble their wage, is going to be interested. In Costa’s case, I would look no further than his agent, as to where it all started from. When did he say he did not want to play for Chelsea?
That text message is very relevant.
Imagine, you are on your holiday, enjoying yourself in the sun with the family, having a pint, when you get a message from the boss, saying that there’s no need for you to return to work because blah blah blah.
IMO that was a cowardly thing for Conte to do.

Conte Officially off

Once again, there’s a reason why that happened, and it’s not all one way.
It also ignores the fact Diego Costa is a maniac.

When he wore a Madrid top.
When he gave an interview after the FA Cup final defeat to Arsenal.
When he turned up two stone overweight.
When he went on strike in Brazil.
When he openly flirted with China.
Etc

Decent player though. A brute
