It is unfortunate that some idiots can’t give an opinion on social media without resorting to insults and nonsense, but what is clear is that there is a clear division of opinion on him.
I have to admit I have some reservations, maybe it’s the frustration of following the 1000 pass a game brigade that have been representing Spain the last few years, but I get that sort of feeling from us. It can be pretty, but it can be boring and when you get teams like Everton it leads to terrible games.
I think how he reacts to the defeat at Spurs will tell us a lot, if he can get the team to react positively then it’s onwards and upwards, let’s see, it’s in adversity where you learn the most about people.
I’m hopeful he will turn out to be the manager we hope he can be.
Looking at what he did with Napoli he will keep playing the same way and attempt to coach us better with some new additions to help. I don't think we'll change much.
Defensively we chased multiple center backs during the summer so it's clear hes not happy with what we have. Don't think that's good news for Luiz, Cahill or. Christiansen (spelling).
Personally I'm enjoying it.
I’m not expecting change, just maybe some adaptability, like if Jorginho is being overrun then use Kante slightly differently.....maybe, I know my knowledge is limited, I’ve learnt with age that I don’t know half as much as I used to think I did.
As I say, I await to see what happens.
If he is not going to change, and drop Kante in alongside Jorginho, then he should play Fabregas alongside Jorginho, as it looks now teams will follow Everton’s lead. Kante could play behind them, in his defensive midfield role.
Word is Fabregas off to AC Milan for ten mill
Is that what we’re paying Milan to take him?
I agree - I think he's too fixed in his thinking and won't change it though. I don't see a coach who is adaptable when he plays the same formation, with largely the same players every week and making the same like for like subs.
I hope he proves me wrong, but I've already got reservations tbh. Telling Kante he's not good enough to sit as a deep lying midfielder...
Agreed
As you’ve all said, only time will tell (if he gets it).
I was happy we got him as I’d been following Napoli for a couple of seasons while he was there so it was exciting to see if he could replicate that here, but I knew he’d need time and possibly different personnel in one or two positions, which isn’t necessarily things he’ll get at this club. Maybe things actually seeming to click well early on will count against him as elsewhere his teams have started slow then improved and gone from strength to strength. I think if you bring in a manager like Sarri, you have to give him at least two seasons before judging him or else you might as well not bother.
I look at Guardiola’s first season at City and I wonder if it’d had been at Chelsea, whether he’d have gone at the end of it; he got so much stick about stubbornness and not understanding the English game, but he had his beliefs and he stuck to them, and look what’s happened.
Now I know Sarri’s not Pep, and our squad isn’t City’s, but it does show how these types of coaches operate and you have to buy into it for it work. But I suppose it’s easier to buy into it with managers who’ve already got the medals to back up their beliefs, and that’s one thing that will probably count against Sarri until/unless he wins something.
I’ve always preferred pragmatists like Mourinho over fundamentalist/romantics and I do wonder if making slight compromises and changes against the top six or seven in this first season would be wise, until we get to the point where we’re confident enough to be able to go to these places and go toe-to-toe. But his argument will be, how can you improve how you play in that system if you don’t play the system through thick and thin first. I’ll take some short term pain for longer term gain, but I don’t know if the board or most fans would.
I am a bit surprised at how negative things seem to be, especially after how things went last season (it’s not like we’ve come into this as title contenders, we were lucky to finish 5th last year). We’ve only lost one game going into December, and that against a very good team a lot further along than we are, and yes it was an atrocious performance which doesn’t help the mood, but we’ve had too many individuals have nightmare games over the past three season or more to put this solely onto the manager. It felt like Saturday was coming admittedly but it certainly shouldn’t be panic buttons and toys out of the pram time.
Famous stop writing essays, I can't keep up
Agree with you about social media. It's quite toxic.
I'm not convinced by Sarri at all. I truly believe the Sp*rs defeat is his 'Conte away at Arsenal 3-0 down moment', especially regarding Kante. Will Sarri change the system like Conte did?
It's seems bat shit crazy to have that opinion when Chelsea have only lost one game this season, but it's how I feel at the moment. Who goes to Wembley against our biggest rivals who have the ability (Rudiger aside) to bully us all over the park, without a DM? And with Barkley (physical player) on the bench? He's a fking idiot.
Morata (I like him) can't cope. Giroud can at least cause problems if balls are getting whipped in. Arsenal should've stuck six past us which, if they had done, might've been a blessing in disguise.
Rafa Benitez* wouldn't be as naive as this.
* Fat prick
My expectation of Sarri is far less than I have for the like of Jose, Conte, Pep etc. Do I think he's right up there as a top-notch manager? Not a chance, not yet anyway.
What he is is a very dedicated man who will work his socks off to get his ideals shown on a football pitch. A man who doesn't get carried away with unbeaten runs and always seems very grounded as others hit emotional highs and lows. I love the calmness seen on the bench from Sarri (and Gianfranco)...a little note written then back up on his feet directing play. He doesn't play the fans as Conte did...he is focussed totally on what is happening on the pitch. I adore the lack of circus creating from Sarri....blissful peace.
Sarri, 100% backing from me.
