Just to throw a bit more petrol on the fire on here I would just like to highlight that the last two games where he played as the holding midfielder in front of two centre backs for us we shipped 5 goals in a game and a half. We were so defensively poor that Conte had to switch to two deep lying central midfielders protecting three central defenders just to plug the gaps.

Given that system was eventually sussed out and led to us being outplayed by the likes of Watford, Bournemouth plus the debacle of the white flag waving at City I don’t understand the clamour to return to systems that have ultimately failed previously especially as the defence has the same manpower. The current batch of defenders are just not good enough for us to sit deep and try and hold out over a sustained period of games.

I appreciate that Sarri has his blind spots (all managers have them) but it must make sense that we have to try and keep the ball and even suffer possession without purpose given that every time we lose the ball our Fred Carnos Circus of a defence let a goal in!
