or winning the Europa League could turn out to be a serious poisoned chalice. No way this squad is strong enough to get through the group stages in the CL.
No, but just being in it is worth millions.
And means no Thursday/Sunday league fixtures.
I understand the logic of the finance but our fans won”t give that a moments thought if we under perform. As for the fixtures I quite like the Thursdays and Sundays have been around even before the Europa League.
I was having this conversation with a Gooner last week and I lamented getting through the groups last season as dropping into the Europa might have been better for us.
It’s a tricky one really, I suppose most people wouldn’t have given Spurs or Ajax a shout of getting this far so there is always that chance of having a good CL run.
The transfer window ban could be the key, if we do get to buy players this summer then having CL football could be the difference in the quality and type of player we could bring in, especially if we then can’t sign anyone in the next window or two.
but failure to do so would lead to Europa football again and a more gruelling schedule. And if the results go proper sht a July start. CL football is best outcome even if its just for the money and prestige again. We wont do very well, albeit look around Europe and the best 2 teams are probably City and Liverpool, the quality of the Spanish, German, Italian and PSG teams are a notch below where they have been for last decade.
The squad needs strengthening, the transfer ban will dictate a lot. The likes of Mount, Abraham, James might actually get a few games.
Don’t disagree with anything there but just feel that our future will be better served having another year in the Europa and blooding more of the youngsters in that environment preparing them better for the PL and ultimately the CL further on.
