Anyone else annoyed/disappointed he’s chosen this moment to come out with this rant about Sarri? Whatever you think of them both as individuals and whether he’s got valid grievances or not, by coming out now ahead of a semi final and potential final, that’s hardly put the interests of the club first. Why not say this once he’s left? Very disappointed in him TBH.
I think it’s a pretty underwhelming rant for a clubs fan base who generally have not bonded with the manager. For me it’s a nothing story, we all know he’s been treated poorly, having him say a little means very little to me and hardly going to destabilise us.
A Spurs Liverpool final is much more concerning.
That’s one shite Barca side.
I just don’t really understand why he felt the need to say it now, why not wait until the summer?
Liverpool will win the CL now, whoever they face in the Final, IMHO
I’m more annoyed/disappointed in Sarri treating the club captain as he has.
There’s two sides to every story but even if Cahill is right in what he’s saying, I just don’t see why there’s any need to say it now when the season’s not actually ended. I don’t recall JT slagging off Benitez until after we’d ended that season and achieved our aims, because I think Terry genuinely had the club’s best interests at heart and I don’t know if that’s the case for Cahill.
Exactly that. I don't mind him saying it but the timing was very poor.
He's 4th choice centre back, like he was for a lot of last season, so not sure what he expected? When he has played he's been poor.
From what I heard, the club were prepared to let him go in January but he refused to leave, so I don’t really know exactly what he feels he’s owed anyway, but yeah the timing is my main beef rather than what he’s said
Managers manage in different ways and some players act in different ways. If a player feels massively let down then I would expect some reaction - the timing is possibly planned because they still have a working relationship and GC wants confrontation. Perhaps Sarri never had the guts to say to GC "I don't rate you. You are now a last resort player". Personally, I'm pleased GC hasn't played much because like others I feel he's way past his best.
To me, it's just the politics of a club and made spectacular by a 2 bob journo.
I think he’s arguably the first Head Coach we’ve had in the true sense of the term. Conte & Mourinho wanted to be managers and Sarri doesn’t, he’s doing the job he’s actually employed to do. I can see how that’s alien to a player like Cahill who’s been born & bred and then spent his entire career in a country where we are used to the manager culture.
Perhaps Zola was the man employed to bridge the gap between them. Who knows mate.
Poor timing - perhaps GC feels he has a reason. As I say, politics.
So much thrown at Sarri, some worthy and some downright nasty. Now the players will chirp up one by one as they leave. My expectation remains with what I see a manager/head coach has to work with and I don't see a squad of players I think should win the PL. Top 4 is actually a bit of a result, all things considered. It could be argued it's actually a fantastic period of management.
Just feel like by going public, Cahill’s doing what’s best for him personally and not what’s best for the club, which is what I think a proper club captain should do. If he’s got grievances, fair or otherwise, it should be dealt with in-house and once he goes, by all means go public with it when it can’t potentially cause issues amongst a squad with a semi final and silverware still to play for (and injuries stacking up).
As you say, the club could end up having a decent season, all things considered, so it’s a bit disappointing that Cahill only seems to be thinking of himself at this key time.
I thought that Sarri still putting him on for a proper send off showed a decent amount of class. A lot of managers wouldn't have given him that after an article like that.
Agreed. Just doesn’t sit well with me really, the timing of it and effectively saying that any accomplishment this season doesn’t count to him, not exactly the sort of thing you expect to hear from someone who’s supposed to support his team mates and just want the club to be successful above any individual honour or personal pride.
