I'd make a strong case for Lampard getting the job anyway, but you can't ignore that it's brilliant to have 3 former Chelsea players (Newton is meant to be re-joining the first team staff), plus Joe Edwards who was in our youth team running things.

Edwards in particular is one to watch-out for, this is quite interesting (from a few years ago). Look at the players he's known and worked with since they were 7/8...

Having Jody Morris is really important too, he knows these kids so well.

What I don't like is the common expectation that Frank will deliver a new era of mass homegrown talent into the first team. Talk of all these young lads suddenly becoming our first teamers is just nonsense and grossly sentimental.

This I find unfair but feel Lampard will let many down softly in a diplomatic way.

I think the difference is that I trust him and his coaches to make a genuine assessment. For the first time, if they're good enough, they'll get a chance.

I don't think that's ever been the case in the last 15 years.
