60 goals all inside the box not got a shot on him Batman where are you?

Think we missed Giroud up there when we needed him the most.
I’m not Batshuayi’s biggest fan but think he’d have been ideal to come on after they scored to try and nick a goal.

I thought Tammy did quite well when he came on yesterday tbh. Giroud was also ok until he seemed to tire and look for those cheap fouls, they really grate on me. I've seen that Batshuyi isn't quite match-fit and will turn out for the U23's.

Tammy’s attitude is great and Frank obviously sees something in him on the training ground, so I’m happy to give him a chance. So far, he’s worked hard in the three games, though I just worry as to what his ceiling is; I’m not too sure exactly what he can effectively offer us that the other two strikers we have can’t. Maybe it just needs that first goal to come and the rest will follow; I really hope I’m wrong and he makes it as a top striker.

I'm beside you regarding Tammy.

I see a decent striker but I don't see a superstar. That said, he has the time and opportunity to change a few of us that doubt he has what it takes.

We’re in a relegation dogfight so he needs to step it up a bit quicker :-D

How good was Harry Kane at his age? Not saying he'll be the next Kane, but especially with forwards, it's really difficult to tell if they'll become decent until they're in the mid 20s.

Tammy

I think Kane’s breakthrough season at Spurs came when he was about the age Abraham is now, and I take the point that you can’t/shouldn’t write someone off as that would wrongly suggest that a player - particularly a young one - can’t improve with time and experience.
I think the reason Kane is the exception that proves the rule, is because he made it impossible to drop him at that time as he kept scoring and contributing to the team, every time he got out on the field. It’s harsh - and we’ve probably lost potential top players by judging them too early - but the longer Abraham goes without scoring, the more the question will be asked as to how good he can be and perhaps most importantly, what he can contribute to the team right now. We’re still only two games in, so he does still have plenty of time to start answering those questions, and I truly hope he does.
Giroud doesn’t score enough goals to play 90 minutes every week in an ideal world, but he showed in the past couple of games that he can still be useful to the team with his other attributes. He’s almost the complete opposite of Batshuayi who I think doesn’t offer enough to the team, but can pop up with goals.
Lampard obviously sees enough to think Tammy’s ceiling is higher than what I fear it is and he’s been far from dreadful so far, so I hope that Frank’s experience of working with top players goes on to prove prove him right with that belief.

The bar is high at Chelsea and we usually hop from one striker to another these days. Tammy had a decent shooting chance v Leicester...if you want to stay in the side and rise it has to go in - that's what he has to do and it is indeed harsh. A goal may make a world of difference.

He's just a tall Kalou..... could be a song there!

Frank said that he’s not going to be playing youngsters for the sake of it and that they’ll have to earn it. Tammy’s attitude will have done him a lot of favours in getting him his chances so far but he’ll know the pressure is on already.

I’d be starting Giroud at Norwich based on his contribution to the team and the way we played in the first half and in midweek. Unless/until we get a confident striker who’s knocking them in for fun, that link-up and hold-up play is what’s going to be the differential in who plays and who doesn’t. Based purely on performances in three early season games, Giroud gets that nod, on nothing other than judging the pair’s displays on their own merits. As you say, Tammy knocking that one in which he blasted sky high yesterday could have earned him that starting spot. These are the fine margins at this level.

At Abrahams' age, he made 10 PL appearances and scored 3 goals - It was the season after that he took off.

Not saying Abraham is Pele, but unless he plays, how will we ever know?

Tammy
by Famous, 20/08, 16:05 @ stanic_worship

Kane was born July 1993 so aged 21 in 2014 when he took off. Tammy will be 22 in 6 weeks [shades]
It’s always going to be chicken and egg with players, particularly younger ones; do you just play every young player in the hope that they all come good?
I trust that Frank sees something in Tammy to have given him these chances; I personally think the likes of Hudson Odoi and Mount have shown enough to get minutes this season, but I’m not going to be getting on Abraham’s back based on three average displays so soon into the season.

Tammy
by stanic_worship, 21/08, 08:13 @ Famous

That's kind of my point, that 2013/14 season he only played a handful of games and scored 3 goals...the next season he exploded.

Now not saying Abraham is that player, but he obviously has something about him. People mentioning Batshuayi, but how is it that every single manager has decided he's not good enough (including the ones he's been on loan at!).

I think this season we're just going to have to suck it up and to be honest, I don't think that's such a bad thing - Players like Abraham will sink or swim.

Tammy
by Famous, 21/08, 09:25 @ stanic_worship

I’ve been a critic of Batshuayi in the past but having Giroud on for 70 minutes or so and then bringing Michy on to maybe grab a goal if we need it, doesn’t sound too bad.
But if Tammy comes good with these chances he’s getting, even better [^]

Tammy
by upthechels @, 21/08, 10:08 @ Famous

Batshuyi is not a class striker (we all agree) but he gives you 'busy and mobile' in and around the box. He has an instinct for sniffing goals. In the early part of games, he will ruin attacks because he is absolutely useless at watching the line of defence and is easy pickings for a defence looking for offsides. Later on in games, as we look to win or get a point he would be my go-to striker. That's because as a team we would push on defences and join up with Batshuyi.

So I'm all for the 60-70 minute sub.

[^] if two of them make it it probably saves us 80-100 million. We've got the best academy in the country and can't sign players, it's like the perfect storm!

I personally think Mount and James are the two most likely to make it but Tammy has scored goals everywhere bar a very poor Swansea side.

As an aside I was reading somewhere recently that the Chelsea academy has produced more current premier league players than any other team.

Whatever happens this season, our squad should be in a much better position after next summers transfer window.

Even if James, Tomori, christensen, mount, ruben, Hudson odoi and tammy only turn out to be good enough as squad players, it saves blowing 20m+ on squad players like drinkwater, bakayoko, zappacosta, baba Rahman, cuadrado etc and allows us to spend our money on proper quality first team players.
