I see that talks yesterday with the PFA around players wages ended with no agreement.
I find it hard to understand how some clubs can expect non-playing staff to take pay cuts but players expect to carry on as normal?
Also, Sp*rs, Newcastle and Norwich are among clubs that are furloughing non-playing staff whilst players continue on 100% wages. It's unbelievable. And it's quite obvious - morally and financially - how and when that scheme should be used.
Say there were 20 non-playing staff, earning average 30k a year. So approx 150k wages for 3 months. 120k will then have to be paid by the Government. That's 1 week's pay (or less) to the average Premier League player.
Ludicrous isn’t it mate.
This pandemic is revealing the true heroes in society... not these spoilt, self-absorbed weaklings.
Yep to be honest here - I am looking at the clubs and not the players. The club should be able to support its non playing staff through wage reduction discussions with its players. No wonder the public are pissed.
It’s obviously a complex situation but always easy to bash footballers (mostly working class and/or foreigners, prime targets for the press), whilst the billionaire owners are let off. Not surprising the govt. jumped at the chance to play the deflection/blame game the other day.
What about all the much wealthier people in the country, and/or those profiting from the current situation? If anything, I’ve seen lots of reports of footballers contributing individually out of their own pockets.
Fair points and who knows what is going on behind the scenes.
Reading some the financial implications of a null and void season, which is looking more likey, it's clear there are some interesting times ahead!
The comments from a lot of'The Best fans In The World(C)' are embarrassing at best.
Agreed, it's the clubs that should be leading this.
Liverpool has now reversed their decision on furloughing. Class and Dignity as always.
