Maybe he hadn’t heard black people being referred to as monkeys by racists for so long that he didn’t even put two and two together and it didn’t cross his mind that there are people out there who have that mindset in this day and age.

I remember the furore about a black child model wearing a t shirt saying ‘Little Monkey’ and thinking that the boy’s parents must have been fine with it and not even thinking about the racial connotations of a slur that’s been out of use in civilised life for decades, for it to have been published in the first place.

It’s just sad to me that people’s default reaction is thinking the worst of everyone at all times. It’s sad to go through life always seeking out and calling out offence that was never intended in the first place.
